Teaching Schools: Assessing the Landscape

Teaching Schools: Assessing the Landscape

Tuesday, March 11, 2014 - 09:45 - 15:30
Park Crescent Conference Centre, 229 Great Portland Street, London, United Kingdom

British Educational Leadership Management and Administration Society (BELMAS)

Teaching Schools are now a key part of the landscape of schooling in England. They embody the government's ambition of further moving the focus of teacher education from universities to schools and, more widely, of establishing a 'self-improving' school system. These objectives are both ambitious and challenging. They raise issues about schools' capacity to carry out the tasks expected of them; the kinds of models and strategies that might be most successful; and the implications for other actors, especially universities, local authorities and those schools with which teaching schools must work.

The purpose of this conference is to explore how the teaching school concept can be evaluated and researched. What is the current state of play? What can be learned from the experience so far? And what are the key issues to be explored as implementation progresses? The conference will comprise keynotes by major players and case studies on key aspects of the teaching school policy.
