ATEE Winter Conferece 2014 - Social Justice and Diversity in Teacher Education

15-17 April 2014, Budapest, ELTE Faculty of Education and Psychology

The VI ATEE Winter Conference will be held in Budapest (Hungary) on 15th, 16th and 17th April 2014. The main aim of the conference is to facilitate scientific dialogue around the theme of social justice and diversity in connection to teacher education and teachers’ professional development.
The conference is organized by the Education for Social Justice, Equity and Diversity Research and Development Community (RDC) of ATEE, by the Hungarian Pedagogical Association (together with The Foundation for School Development) and by Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Education and Psychology.
This Conference offers a platform for discussion and common knowledge construction to enhance the connection between research and practice, and global and local reality. The whole conference will be characterized by the atmosphere of sharing, it will provide place and time for discussions and conversations. It is organized with the involvement of some local communities, schools and NGOs. The participants will get to know their activities during the conference, and may participate in multicultural events and tours in Budapest.
The conference welcomes any kind of theoretical, empirical or methodological research papers related to the conference theme from different disciplines, approaches and research traditions. Participatory, collaborative or practitioner research studies and policy analyses are particularly welcome.

In relation to its aims, the conference has some special characteristics. It partly follows the traditional structure of scientific conferences (key notes, parallel sections), but in the 60-minute parallel sections there will be only two papers presented briefly in 10-10 minutes leaving time (40 minutes) for discussion. The full paper or at least a shorter, draft version of the paper and the presentation should be sent to the organizers one month before the conference, and they will be uploaded on the website. It is very important that the participants choose and read the papers in advance, and in this way after the shorter presentations there can be a real dialog about the research studies in the sections. In order to make possible this structure, the number of presentations is limited to 110. NGOs and schools will take part of the programme, their voice and activities will be (re)presented during the first reception, through the multicultural walking tours, and the special ‘social dinner’. The registration to these last two events will be offered later on the website.
